Baseball Game Preview: Timpview Thunderbirds vs. Wasatch Wasps

For the second straight game, Timpview will face off against Wasatch. The Thunderbirds are taking a road trip to face off against the Wasps at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Timpview is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Timpview is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Wasatch on Thursday. They lost 8-1 to the Wasps.

For Wasatch's part, Blake Sweat spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Sweat has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Braxton Faller and Austin Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Faller went 2-for-3 with one run and one double, while Brown went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Brown is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Eli Turley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Wasatch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Timpview struck out seven times.

Wasatch pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Timpview, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.

Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Timpview hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .375. However, it's not like Wasatch struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
