League recap: Bayfield tops Grand Valley to extend winning streak

Bayfield extended the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week by beating Grand Valley, 23-18. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Wolverines.

Bayfield and the Cardinals played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Bayfield eventually emerging with a 23-18 victory. TJ Pazell ran for 216 yards in the win.

Grand Valley's dynamic duo of Tyler Scott and Trent Reidle proved tough for Gary Heide's team to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Scott threw for 166 yards and two touchdowns and Reidle had 81 yards receiving. Stephan Padilla helped Grand Valley's passing attack out by catching three balls for 45 yards.

Casey Hornburg was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 265 yards as Aspen lost to the Wolverines. Teammate Ryan Fitzgerald added to the ground attack by rushing for 57 yards.

Andrade Josh made the biggest impact on defense this week as Basalt defeated Gunnison. The senior recorded one fumble.

6-foot-4 quarterback Scott of Grand Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 526. He has also thrown six touchdowns. On the ground, the Skiers' Hornburg has rushed for 570 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Josh. The Basalt star has 13 catches for 257 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Bayfield takes on Coal Ridge. At the moment, the Wolverines are in first, while the Titans are in third.
