Walhalla is 1-9 against West-Oak since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Razorbacks will venture away from home to face off against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with seven defeats in a row, Walhalla turned things around against Southside Christian on Wednesday. They skirted past the Sabres 11-9. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Razorbacks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
The team relied heavily on Lexi Holcomb, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Jayden Culp also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Walhalla was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask West-Oak). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Greenville H a 22-0 shutout on Friday. Considering the Warriors have won 14 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Abi Blackwell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Kylie Perkins was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Anna Blackwell, who went 2-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
Walhalla's record now sits at 5-10. As for West-Oak, their record is now 16-3.
Walhalla suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to West-Oak in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Razorbacks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
