Baseball Recap: Lamar Drops Season-High Score on La Junta

Lamar hadn't beaten La Junta on the road since May 9, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. Lamar walked away with a 15-12 victory over La Junta. The Thunder's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Axton Morales was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lamar got a massive performance out of Ayden Hose, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Hose a new career-high. Alexander Williams was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. This is the second loss in a row for La Junta and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lamar will head out to face off against Rye at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Rye has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Lamar will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for La Junta, they will venture away from home to square off against Pueblo Centennial at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
