Delta Charter is 8-2 against Vanguard College Prep since October of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Delta Charter to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophia Cohen, who had five aces and three digs. Those three digs gave Cohen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kyah Caamal, who had four aces.
They weren't the only good servers: Delta Charter was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 13 aces in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Vanguard College Prep hadn't done well against Stockton Christian recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Eagles 3-2.
Vanguard College Prep had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 12-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-15, 15-3.
Vanguard College Prep's win came from a few key players Delta Charter will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Adalyn Por, who had six aces and five assists. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more aces the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jocelyn Torres, who had seven assists and four aces.
Delta Charter now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Vanguard College Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Delta Charter has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 16.1 aces per game. However, it's not like Vanguard College Prep struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
