Baseball Recap: Miller Place Takes a Loss

Miller Place extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 6-11 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 1-0 heartbreaker at the hands of the Rocky Point Eagles. If the Panthers were looking for revenge after losing 7-3 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Nick Frusco was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Miller Place's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Frusco was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Frusco wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kyle Diamond, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Nick Gargone also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Rocky Point, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

On Rocky Point's side, Tyler Callahan looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Callahan has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Rocky Point beat Miller Place by a score of 8-0 on Thursday.
