Baseball Recap: Monett Takes a Loss

Monett fell victim to Seneca and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 1-0. The Cubs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Carson Burtrum was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk).

This is the second loss in a row for Monett and nudges their season record down to 8-7. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Seneca, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.

When Monett and Seneca next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Cubs will take on Marshfield and their eight-game winning streak at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Seneca will try to stop Purdy's six-game winning streak when they meet at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Indians 2.3, the Eagles 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
