Hesperia Christian is a perfect 10-0 against Lucerne Valley since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Patriots will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 3:15 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Hesperia Christian came up short against Western Christian on Wednesday, falling 19-9. That's two games in a row now that the Patriots have lost by exactly ten runs.
Eden Skinner stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Anderson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lucerne Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 29-19 to Desert Christian. Even though they lost, the Mustangs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 7.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Ashlyn Mctiernan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.3 stolen bases per game. Amaya Kelly was another key player, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Hesperia Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-6-1. As for Lucerne Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Lucerne Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hesperia Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Lucerne Valley, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Hesperia Christian's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Hesperia Christian took their win against Lucerne Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-2 score. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
