Baseball Recap: Cannon Comes Up Short

Cannon lost against Gaston Christian back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cannon Cougars fell 11-6 to the Gaston Christian Eagles. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mason Mierzwa and Grogan Kelley stepped up to the plate in a big way. Mierzwa scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Kelley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI. That's the most RBI Kelley has posted since back in April of 2024. Deven Datta was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Cannon's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cannon will host Concord Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cannon has given up an average of 7.8 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. The match will give SouthLake Christian Academy their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.
