Recap: Santa Maria Cougars vs. Kaufer Seahawks
The Santa Maria Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They suffered a rough 48-27 defeat at the hands of Kaufer. Santa Maria lost against Kaufer in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 46-41 score last time.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kaufer to victory, but perhaps none more so than Myya Deneweth , who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Madison Arredondo was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and five blocks.
Santa Maria bumped their record down to 0-3 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Kaufer, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Ben Bolt the next time they take the court. Kaufer will head out to face Ben Bolt at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Santa Maria will host them at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
