Football Recap: Carter Ward Key Part of Team Effort in Warriors Win

The Danville Warriors didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against the McCutcheon Mavericks on Friday, but they still walked away with a 29-23 victory.

Danville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Ward, who rushed for 76 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 114 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Ward a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Daiton Hood, who rushed for 191 yards while picking up 10.1 yards per carry.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Danville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 325 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 162 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

The victory got Danville back to even at 4-4. As for McCutcheon, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Danville will head out to square off against Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant s against one another: Bryce Eagen and Key'Mareawn McCullough. As for McCutcheon, they are taking a road trip to face off against Indianapolis Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Mavericks surely won't give up without a fight.
