Preview: Assabet Valley RVT Aztecs vs. Oxford Pirates
The Assabet Valley RVT Aztecs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Oxford Pirates at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Assabet Valley RVT's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 46-31 fall against Advanced Math & Science Academy. Assabet Valley RVT has not had much luck with Advanced Math & Science Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Oxford's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Uxbridge by a score of 52-50. While losing is never fun, Oxford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Uxbridge is ranked 29th).
The losing side was boosted by Brady Marqoupis, who scored 26 points. That was a full 52% of Oxford's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Andruw Martinez was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Assabet Valley RVT's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Oxford, they now have a losing record at 4-5.
Assabet Valley RVT was dealt a bruising 68-37 loss at the hands of Oxford in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Marqoupis, who scored 29 points. Now that Assabet Valley RVT knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
