After flying high against Urban last Tuesday, Making Waves Academy came back down to earth. The Making Waves Academy Marlins suffered a rough 20-2 defeat at the hands of the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots on Thursday. For St. Joseph Notre Dame's part, Cassandra Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Sanchez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Lexi Roben was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Dylan Valentine, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI and two runs.
