Softball Recap: Making Waves Academy Marlins vs. St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots

After flying high against Urban last Tuesday, Making Waves Academy came back down to earth. The Making Waves Academy Marlins suffered a rough 20-2 defeat at the hands of the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots on Thursday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest runs Making Waves Academy has scored all season.

For St. Joseph Notre Dame's part, Cassandra Sanchez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Sanchez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in seven consecutive pitching appearances. Sanchez was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Lexi Roben was a standout: she scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Dylan Valentine, who went 3-for-4 with six RBI and two runs.
