Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Grafton). They were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Preston Knights on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bearcats needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Karigan Wildroudt was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ruth Horne, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Grafton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Preston only posted a batting average of .167.
Grafton has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Preston, they dropped their record down to 3-9 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
Looking ahead, Grafton will head out on the road to square off against Liberty at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bearcats are facing the Mountaineers at the right time seeing as the Mountaineers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Preston, they will face off against University at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
