Volleyball Recap: Mathews Takes a Loss

Mathews was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 3-0 to the Cardinal Huskies. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in August.

Mathews was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-8, 25-23, 25-6.

MARLEE RUITER paced Mathews' offense, picking up seven kills. RUITER got some help from KAT ROWAN and her eight assists. Finally, RUITER was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Mathews' defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Cardinal, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with the win, which was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Mathews has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against St. John on the 30th. As for Cardinal, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Grand Valley on the 30th.
