Softball Recap: Mercer County Has No Trouble Against Monmouth-Roseville

Mercer County won the last time they faced Monmouth-Roseville and things went their way on Thursday too. The Golden Eagles put the hurt on the Titans with a sharp 7-1 win. Considering the Golden Eagles have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Elsie Cook spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jayden Weeks was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Peyton Knapp, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Mercer County is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Monmouth-Roseville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 14 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercer County will square off against Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Monmouth-Roseville, they will head out to take on Hall at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
