Basketball Recap: Colby Batterton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Springfield over Cotopaxi

If Springfield was riding high fresh off their 64-44 takedown of Cheraw last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Springfield Longhorns fell just short of the Cotopaxi Pirates by a score of 50-48 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Longhorns have suffered since January 30, 2024.

Several Longhorns players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Colby Batterton, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Batterton is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Slayde Cohoon, who to rack up 16 points and six steals.

Even though they lost, Springfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Cotopaxi's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Terrance Evans, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Justin Howell was another key player, en route to 17 points.

Springfield's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Cotopaxi, they pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home.

Springfield has already played their next match, a 49-45 defeat against Swink on the 22nd. As for Cotopaxi, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 46-45 loss against Lake County on the 22nd.
