Volleyball Recap: Mead Falls Short Against Ranked Gonzaga Prep

Mead faced Gonzaga Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Panthers lost 3-0 to the Bullpups. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bullpups apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2024.

While Mead was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-23, 25-16.

Gonzaga Prep was led to victory by Cienna Pierpoint and Camryn Holbert. Pierpoint had 23 digs and six assists, while Holbert had nine digs and two assists. With that strong performance, Pierpoint is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game. Karolina Flanagan also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Mead's loss ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-6. As for Gonzaga Prep, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 26-1.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mead is set to square off against their familiar foe Shadle Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Gonzaga Prep will challenge rival University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
