Basketball Recap: Santa Gertrudis Academy Comes Up Short

Santa Gertrudis Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They lost 77-52 to the Cornerstone Christian Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1471st, while the Warriors are ranked 66th).

Cornerstone Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Carter Crist out in front who made all 6 shots he took to post 17 points. Those 17 points gave Crist a new career-high. Benjamin Wagner was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Santa Gertrudis Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Cornerstone Christian, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 18-1.

Santa Gertrudis Academy will challenge Hebbronville at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cornerstone Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 75-53 victory against Tuloso-Midway on the 28th.
