Softball Game Preview: Catalina Foothills Falcons vs. Salpointe Catholic Lancers

Catalina Foothills is 0-10 against Salpointe Catholic since March of 2017 but things could change on Monday. The Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Lancers at 6:00 p.m.

Catalina Foothills played against Canyon del Oro on Thursday and lost via forfeit.

Salpointe Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Nogales a 20-0 shutout on Friday. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Audri Elias made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Green, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Molli Daley was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Salpointe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Salpointe Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Catalina Foothills, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-19.

Catalina Foothills couldn't quite finish off Salpointe Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
