Softball Game Preview: Auburn Trojans vs. Calhoun Warriors

The Auburn Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Calhoun Warriors at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Auburn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.

On Friday, Auburn didn't have quite enough to beat Greenfield/Northwestern and fell 6-5. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Skylar Meats was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

The home team had come away the winner the last three times Calhoun and Carrollton had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Warriors fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 6-4 on Thursday. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly two runs.

Kiera Sievers made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Calhoun's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 12-5. As for Auburn, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Auburn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Calhoun struggles in that department as they've averaged .349. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Auburn took their victory against Calhoun when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
