Softball Recap: Chireno Owls vs. Woden Eagles
Chireno had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 4-8 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They never let the Woden Eagles get on the board and left with a 1-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Owls have posted since April 13, 2024.
As for Woden, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8. The shutout was out of character for they seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.
For Woden's part, Riley Taylor spent all 7.2 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up 19 Ks. Taylor has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jolette Montoya made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases.
Chireno has already played their next game (against Garrison), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Woden, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-4 loss against Timpson on the 17th.
