Volleyball Game Preview: Whiting Oilers vs. Wheeler Bearcats

Whiting is 0-8 against Wheeler since August of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Oilers will take on the Bearcats at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Whiting is headed into the matchup having just suffered their biggest loss since August 28th on Wednesday. They lost 3-0 to Hammond Bishop Noll. Considering the last time the Oilers couldn't score was back in August, the team can't take the result too hard.

Whiting might've come up short, but they didn't make it easy on Hammond Bishop Noll: every set was decided by three points or less. The final score came out to 25-22, 25-22, 27-25.

The losing side was boosted by Sophia Perez, who had 11 digs. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Wheeler didn't have quite enough to beat Hammond Bishop Noll on Thursday and fell 3-2.

Wheeler wouldn't go down easily and took Hammond Bishop Noll into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking four-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-13, 23-25, 17-25, 15-11.

Wheeler's defeat dropped their record down to 17-11. As for Whiting, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.

Whiting couldn't quite get it done against Wheeler in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Oilers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
