The Cortez Colts are taking a road trip to challenge the Glendale Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Cortez hasn't scored more than a single run for four games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for Cortez's offense. They lost 23-0 to Dysart on Wednesday.
Cortez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andre Shepard, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Glendale, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Westview with a sharp 10-3 win on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Cardinals as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Michael Palomino was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Palomino was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, David Ortiz was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Glendale's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 4-10 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Miranda, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
Glendale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Glendale's record now sits at 7-10. As for Cortez, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-19-1.
Cortez came out on top in a nail-biter against Glendale in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. Do the Colts have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
