League recap: Montoursville climbs in state rankings with win

Montoursville moved up to 161 from 197 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Heartland II. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of beating Milton 45-12.

Loyalsock Township. took down Towanda 41-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Central Columbia's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jordan Thivierge threw for 128 and two touchdowns and Dylan Hine had 48 yards receiving. On the ground Eric Mccracken chipped in 123 yards. Nathan Hughes helped Central Columbia's passing attack out by catching three balls for 35 yards.

Zach Wasilewski provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Mount Carmel bested Hughesville. He completed nine passes for 132 yards and one touchdown and also ran for 32 yards. Wasilewski's favorite target this week was Eric Joraskie, who caught two passes for 46 yards.

5-foot-11 quarterback Thivierge of the Bluejays is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1348. He has also thrown 11 touchdowns. On the ground, the RED TORNADOES's Luke Klingerman has rushed for 868 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Rob Varano. The Mount Carmel star has 33 catches for 562 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Lewisburg takes on the Lancers. At the moment, the Green Dragons are in second, while Loyalsock Township. is in fifth.

Central Columbia and Lewisburg played the most hotly contested game in Heartland II this week, with Central Columbia eventually emerging with a 16-15 victory. Thivierge in the win.
