Softball Recap: Payson Beats San Tan Foothills for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Payson had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the San Tan Foothills Sabercats with a sharp 21-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Longhorns, who have now won four contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Kinikki Smith made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single walk, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other batting news, Holdyn Waterman was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Danica Peters, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Payson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .771. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Payson pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for San Tan Foothills, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson will face off against Benjamin Franklin at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for San Tan Foothills, they will square off against ALA - Ironwood at 3:45 p.m. on Monday.
