Baseball Game Preview: Innovation Bulls vs. University Cougars

The Innovation Bulls will square off against the University Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Innovation is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Innovation lost 17-6 to Lake Nona on Wednesday.

Innovation saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alan Guerrero, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, University won against Colonial on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. University beat Freedom by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-5. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Patriots on their field since April 6, 2015.

Sebastian Montanez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because University is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-7 otherwise. Montanez was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Angel Berrios was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.

The win made it two in a row for University and bumps their season record up to 6-8. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11 hits in those games compared to only 5.17 in the others. As for Innovation, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.
