Recap: Moapa Valley Pirates vs. Dixie Flyers
It was a good run, but the Moapa Valley Pirates unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 35-34 to Dixie. Moapa Valley lost against Dixie in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 42-32 score last time.
Moapa Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Savanna Burt, who scored 4 points along with 4 steals. Burt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Haylie Western was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 6 rebounds.
It was another big night for Kealah Faumuina, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds for Dixie. That makes it four consecutive games in which Faumuina has scored at least 25% of Dixie's points.
Moapa Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 6-1. As for Dixie, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.
Moapa Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Foothill at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th. Foothill will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Moapa Valley is ranked sixth). As for Dixie, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Juab at 7:00 p.m. Juab will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line.
