Basketball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon lost against Effingham back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Mattoon Greenwave were beaten by the Effingham Hearts 69-10. The contest marked the Greenwave's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Mattoon has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Effingham, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mattoon will take on Charleston at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Effingham, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Teutopolis at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
