Softball Recap: Alameda Comes Up Short

Alameda dropped their record down to 11-8-1 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the California Grizzlies by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Hornets have suffered since March 20th.

Alameda saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julia Lambert, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

As for California, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

On California's side, they got a great performance from Gabriella Nudo as she pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hailey King, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

Coming up, Alameda will square off against San Leandro at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hornets 3.2, the Pirates 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for California, they will take on Monte Vista at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
