Basketball Game Preview: Gretna Dragons vs. Papillion-LaVista South Titans

The Gretna Dragons will venture away from home to take on the Papillion-LaVista South Titans at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Gretna will be strutting in after a victory while Papillion-LaVista South will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Saturday, Gretna was able to grind out a solid win over Standing Bear, taking the game 44-34.

Gretna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Mcartor led the charge by putting up 11 points. Another player making a difference was Megan Marshall, who posted ten points.

Meanwhile, Papillion-LaVista South played a tough contest on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Millard West, falling 65-37. While losing is never fun, the Titans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while the Wildcats are ranked second).

Despite the loss, Papillion-LaVista South saw an underclassman step up: freshman Maizey Macke went 6-for-12 to rack up 16 points and four steals. Macke continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Medeck, who put up six points and seven boards.

Papillion-LaVista South has been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Gretna, their victory bumped their record up to 9-13.

Gretna lost to Papillion-LaVista South on the road by a decisive 39-20 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Gretna avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
