Basketball Recap: Vanguard College Prep Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Vanguard College Prep and Mariposa County squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Vanguard College Prep had to settle for second. They took a 71-54 bruising from the Mariposa County Grizzlies.

Despite the defeat, Vanguard College Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Xavier Lopez went 7-for-17 en route to 16 points and six steals. The game was Lopez's eighth in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Castillo, who posted seven points and nine assists.

Vanguard College Prep's loss dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Mariposa County, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-14 record this season.

Vanguard College Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mariposa County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, an 88-43 defeat against Woodland Christian on the 19th.
