Basketball Recap: Westlake Takes a Loss

Westlake has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a blow against the Washington Tigers on Monday, falling 69-37. The Demons were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-11.

Several Demons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Liana Ostrowski, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points and four blocks. Ostrowski continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Sophie Taylor also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Washington's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Delaney Pierce, who posted 17 points along with 11 assists and 11 boards. Pierce is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was La Nia Moore, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 boards.

Westlake's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6. As for Washington, their record is now 17-2.

Westlake has already played their next matchup, a 56-53 loss against Berea-Midpark on the 29th. As for Washington, they will take on Firestone at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
