Softball Recap: Ripon Wins Going Away Against Markesan

Ripon barely beat Markesan the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers blew past the Hornets 23-9 on Monday. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.

Bryn Carlson and Hayden Baker did most of the damage at the plate: Carlson went a perfect 5-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles, while Baker got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most doubles Carlson has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabi Gaffney, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Ripon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Markesan struck out six times.

Ripon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-16 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Markesan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-12-2.

Coming up, Ripon is taking a road trip to square off against Winnebago Lutheran Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Markesan does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
