Baseball Game Preview: East Carteret Mariners vs. Ocracoke Dolphins

The East Carteret Mariners will take on the Ocracoke Dolphins in a tournament on Tuesday. East Carteret is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

On Wednesday, East Carteret made easy work of Havelock and carried off a 7-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Mariners, who have now won 12 games by six runs or more so far this season.

Bryan Hadder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, East Carteret let Eli Jenkins and Jonathan Piner run wild. Jenkins got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Piner went 2-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Chase Roberson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Ocracoke can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Hobgood Charter a 12-0 shutout. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Dolphins this season.

East Carteret's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 20-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ocracoke, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.

Everything went East Carteret's way against Ocracoke in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as East Carteret made off with a 20-5 win. Do the Mariners have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dolphins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
