Softball Game Preview: Serena Huskers vs. Yorkville Christian Mustangs

The Serena Huskers will square off against the Yorkville Christian Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Serena has five straight wins, Yorkville Christian has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Tuesday, Serena made easy work of Somonauk and carried off a 14-2 victory. The Huskers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by ten runs or more this season.

Brynley Glade was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last 12 matches. RayElle Brennan was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Serena was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somonauk only posted a batting average of .263.

Meanwhile, Saturday just wasn't the day for Yorkville Christian's offense. They fell 4-0 to Gardner-South Wilmington on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Mustangs have lost by exactly four runs.

Serena pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Yorkville Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-10.

Serena took their win against Yorkville Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Huskers repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
