Basketball Game Preview: Fuquay - Varina Bengals vs. Clayton Comets

Fuquay - Varina is 2-8 against Clayton since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Fuquay - Varina Bengals will head out to take on the Clayton Comets at 7:30 p.m. Fuquay - Varina knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Clayton likes a good challenge.

Last Friday, Fuquay - Varina came up short against South Garner and fell 73-63.

Fuquay - Varina's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Abdou Diop, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Beckett Coon, who went 7-for-17 en route to 23 points and five assists. Diop has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last five times he's played. Nathan Mathew was another key player, putting up seven points.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Fuquay - Varina was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. This was only their 16th loss (out of 20 games) when they've passed the ball that well.

Meanwhile, Clayton waltzed into their contest on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top against the Rams by a score of 52-43.

Clayton pushed their record up to 16-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Fuquay - Varina, their loss dropped their record down to 4-20.

Fuquay - Varina was taken down by Clayton 90-55 when the teams last played last Friday. Can Fuquay - Varina avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
