Basketball Game Preview: Denbigh Baptist Christian Minutemen vs. Portsmouth Christian Patriots

The Denbigh Baptist Christian Minutemen will face off against the Portsmouth Christian Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Last Friday, Denbigh Baptist Christian came up short against Hampton Christian Academy and fell 42-29. The defeat continues a trend for the Minutemen in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the loss, Denbigh Baptist Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Julia Kinney dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards. That was a full 44.8% of Denbigh Baptist Christian's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Khalia Boyd, who had two points.

Even though they lost, Denbigh Baptist Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hampton Christian Academy only pulled down 11 offensive boards.

Meanwhile, Portsmouth Christian had to endure an 11-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Summit Christian Academy with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 43-27.

Portsmouth Christian's victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-12. As for Denbigh Baptist Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7.

Denbigh Baptist Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Portsmouth Christian in their previous meeting back in January, sneaking past 44-42. Will Denbigh Baptist Christian repeat their success, or does Portsmouth Christian have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
