Basketball Recap: Artesia Wins Going Away Against Goddard

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Portales, Artesia was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 56-41 win over the Goddard Rockets. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Rockets two weeks ago, they had to take a 49-48 loss.

Despite the defeat, Goddard saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jazmin De Leon went 6-for-14 to rack up 17 points and three steals. That's the most points De Leon has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aubrie Bolanos, who had nine points and five rebounds.

Artesia's victory bumped their record up to 10-15. As for Goddard, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 13-13.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Artesia will take on Lovington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Goddard, they will square off against Portales at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Portales will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Goddard surely won't give up without a fight.
