Basketball Recap: Middleburg Broncos vs. Fleming Island Golden Eagles
After soaring to 63 points the game before, Middleburg was a bit more limited in their matchup on Saturday. They were beaten by the Fleming Island Golden Eagles 72-22. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Golden Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the loss, Middleburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aiyana Haynes posted 12 points. That was a full 54.5% of Middleburg's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points.
Fleming Island found their leader in freshman Seven Gourdet, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gourdet has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Crawford, who went 6 of 8 en route to 13 points and three steals.
Middleburg's defeat dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Fleming Island, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.
Middleburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 37-26 win against Keystone Heights on the 28th. Fleming Island has also already played their next matchup, a 61-37 victory against Raines on the 27th.
