Basketball Recap: Walnut Takes a Loss

Walnut was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 70-64 heartbreaker at the hands of the Belmont Cardinals. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Monday (58), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Walnut lost, don't look at Logan Wilbanks. Despite the final result, he posted 38 points. The contest was Wilbanks' 23rd in a row with at least 17 points. Joshua Luster was another key player, going 6-for-11 on his way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Walnut's loss dropped their record down to 2-15. As for Belmont, they moved to 2-14 with that victory, which also ended their ten-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Walnut will take on Falkner in a tournament on Thursday. As for Belmont, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Ashland at 7:00 p.m. The Cardinals will be up against the Blue Devils' rather soft defense (which has allowed 61.54 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
