Baseball Game Preview: Sidwell Friends Quakers vs. Maret Frogs

The Sidwell Friends Quakers will venture away from home to square off against the Maret Frogs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Sidwell Friends had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Burke on Saturday. The Quakers put the hurt on the Bengals with a sharp 15-3 victory.

Meanwhile, Maret faced Georgetown Day in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Frogs were the clear victors by a 20-8 margin over the Mighty Hoppers. The Frogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.

Maret got a massive performance out of Jack Spector, who went 2-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Spector hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant King, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Maret always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Sidwell Friends' win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Maret, their record is now 7-2.

Sidwell Friends might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from Maret when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Quakers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
