Baseball Recap: Upland Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Upland ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Los Osos Grizzlies, sneaking past 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Highlanders have posted against the Grizzlies since April 3, 2023.

Issac Carlos looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Upland saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Darien Maung, who went 3-for-4 with one run. Those three hits gave Maung a new career-high. Ryan May was another, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Upland and bumps their season record up to 13-8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Los Osos, they dropped their record down to 8-15 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Upland will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Grizzlies: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
