Recap: Penns Grove Red Devils vs. Lower Cape May Tigers
The Penns Grove Red Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They fell 51-38 to Lower Cape May. While losing is never fun, Penns Grove can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while Lower Cape May is ranked 133rd).
When it comes to explaining why Penns Grove lost, one person who can't be blamed is Giomar Conrad. Despite the final result, he scored 15 points. Conrad scored a full 39.5% of Penns Grove's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ka'Ron Ceaser, who scored five points along with three steals.
Penns Grove has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for Lower Cape May, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Penns Grove's road trip will continue as they head out to face Woodstown at 5:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024. Woodstown will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line. Lower Cape May won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Wildwood Catholic at 2:45 p.m. on December 31st. Wildwood Catholic is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
