Mechanicsburg is headed into the contest having just posted their closest win since May 2, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Twin Valley, sneaking past 7-5. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Dane Mark was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Mark was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Gino Coleman looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Drake Dawson was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. He also scored a run, marking his first of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cumberland Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Northern York 4-3 on Friday.
Curtis Shinn looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Crosby, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Caden Lloyd, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Cumberland Valley pushed their record up to 4-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 6.4 runs this season. As for Mechanicsburg, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mechanicsburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cumberland Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts.
