Softball Recap: Mulberry Has No Trouble Against King

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Mulberry had no problem doing just that on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 18-0 margin over the King Lions. 18 seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Lylah Jones and Lorianys Castanon Cruz did most of the damage at the plate: Jones went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Castanon Cruz went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Jones has hit this season. Kensingten Danforth was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Mulberry always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .852. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Mulberry is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for King, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season.

Mulberry didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 6-4 victory against McKeel Academy on the 30th. King does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
