Football Game Preview: Antonian Prep Apaches vs. Concordia Lutheran Crusaders

Antonian Prep is 6-1 against Concordia Lutheran since October of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Apaches will venture away from home to face off against the Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. Antonian Prep will be strutting in after a win while Concordia Lutheran will be coming in after a loss.

Antonian Prep took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 35-26 victory over St. Pius X. The win continues a trend for the Apaches in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won seven in a row.

It was another big night for Topper Sterling, who rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.9 yards per carry, and also picked up 45 receiving yards and one TD. He is becoming a predictor of Antonian Prep's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Rogan Parson was another key player, rushing for 44 yards and one score.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Antonian Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 181 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Concordia Lutheran unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 20-15 to St. Thomas Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Crusaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 373rd, while the Eagles are ranked 122nd).

Concordia Lutheran's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-2. As for Antonian Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.

Antonian Prep beat Concordia Lutheran 38-28 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Apaches since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
