Softball Game Preview: Dowling Catholic Maroons vs. Johnston Dragons

Dowling Catholic is 2-8 against Johnston since June of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Maroons will face off against the Dragons at 5:00 p.m. Johnston took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Dowling Catholic, who comes in off a win.

Dowling Catholic is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Roosevelt 10-8. The victory continues a trend for the Maroons in their matchups with the Riders: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Johnston didn't have quite enough to beat Valley on Wednesday and fell 5-4. The Dragons have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Johnston's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Dowling Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Everything went Dowling Catholic's way against Johnston when the teams last played back in July of 2025, as Dowling Catholic made off with a 12-4 victory. Will the Maroons repeat their success, or do the Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
