Hannah Welsh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Amber Miller was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Saniyah Leach was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Gray's Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in four consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, South View suffered their closest defeat since March 18th on Wednesday. They fell just short of Purnell Swett by a score of 9-7. The Tigers' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
MADDY CLARK made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of SAVANNA HARDEE, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Gray's Creek pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for South View, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-4.
Gray's Creek's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Bears have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for South View, though, as they've been averaging only 1.1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gray's Creek continue to outrun the ball?
Gray's Creek skirted past South View 3-1 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
