Basketball Recap: Highland Gets the Win

Highland won the last time they faced Pojoaque Valley and Nico Sanchez did his part to make sure it happened again. The Hornets walked away with a 66-53 win over the Elks/Elkettes on Friday for which the team can thank Sanchez, who shot 56% from the field en route to 22 points and seven boards. Sanchez is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season.

Defeat or not, Pojoaque Valley got some senior leadership from Dion Luna and Joziah Salazar. Luna posted 14 points and five rebounds, while Salazar put up 14 points and five boards. Luna also set a new season-high mark in shooting accuracy with 57%. Andres Trevizo was another key player, putting up ten points.

Highland's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Pojoaque Valley, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Highland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 69-48 win against Los Alamos on the 6th. As for Pojoaque Valley, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 76-45 victory against Cottonwood Classical Prep on the 6th.
